Description of Work Unit

Admissions is charged with leading undergraduate recruitment and outreach efforts for the entire university, as well as making decisions on all undergraduate applications, and processing graduate applications. This complex office of over 60 staff recruits actively around the state of Colorado and travels from coast to coast to interact with an annual prospect pool of over 60,000 students each year, and manages over 30,000 applications per year including 4,700 transfer applications. Through innovative and strategic approaches, Admissions strives to balance its growth in attracting an increasingly diverse and well-prepared student body while still remaining true to its land-grant mission and heritage. Colorado State was the first public institution west of the Mississippi with membership in the Common Application Organization, and employs a holistic, comprehensive review process to select new undergraduates not only in light of their preparation, but their potential to successfully contribute to the campus community.

Position Summary

This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Director for Recruitment and Outreach and is a member of the Recruitment Team in the CSU Office of Admissions. The Assistant Director will oversee campus visit programs and will work with the Senior Admissions Counselor who serves as the coordinator of the Admissions Ambassadors to implement these programs. The Assistant Director collaborates with Admissions Marketing and Communication to provide program details in order for the Mar/Comm team to determine the best way to promote programs and events in order to ensure maximum attendance and a smooth sign up process. This position will also be engaged in foundational admission and enrollment management activities including territory management and application file review.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, liberal arts, counseling, business, or a related field.
  • 3 or more years of previous admission or college counseling experience or related higher education experience (student experience will be considered).
  • 1 year of on-campus visit programming experience or event planning experience.
  • 1 year of direct supervisory experience (student or volunteer supervisory experience will be considered).
  • Able to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in higher education administration, education, student affairs, counseling or a related field.
  • Experience with professional staff development or training.
  • Experience giving presentations to groups of various sizes.
  • Experience with holistic file review.
  • Experience utilizing data for assessment purposes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Develop, implement and assess primary on campus visit programs including fall open house programs (Explore CSU), admitted student programs (Choose CSU) and junior visit programs (Discover CSU), as well as transfer student visit days and off-campus programs (Admitted Student Receptions and RAMS Events).
Lead planning committees to ensure that all visit programs adhere to the high standards established by the department, as well as University regulations and budgetary guidelines.

Utilize data to determine which high schools and community colleges within an assigned geographical market need attention in terms of application generation, admits, and yield.

Engage in recruitment travel, representing CSU at college fairs, high schools and community colleges.
Present information to prospective students about Colorado State University during high school visits and the on-campus Daily Information Session.

Serve as a member of the Admissions Application Review Committee responsible for rendering admission decisions on domestic undergraduate applications to the University.
Analyze student credentials through a holistic review of the applicant’s GPA, test scores, letters of recommendation, and essay in order to render an admission decision, or in some cases request additional information from the applicant.
