Description of Work Unit

As the laboratory school housed within the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at CSU, the ECC offers quality programming for young children, trains CSU students for careers in the field of early childhood, and provides opportunities for research related to children, families, and early childhood education. We are dedicated to working in partnership with families to ensure a quality educational experience for their children. The ECC is a Reggio-Emilia-inspired school, providing an emergent approach to educating children that is play-based and child-directed. This approach strives to develop a learning community committed to the co-construction of knowledge in the context of collaboration between parents, children, and teachers. Meaningful educational experiences are planned in a caring atmosphere to promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of each child. We believe that by encouraging self-expression and curiosity and by supporting the active exploration of the environment, both at home and at school, that children will develop a healthy self-image, a sense of responsibility and helpfulness, and that they will learn problem solving and decision making skills.
