Description of Work Unit

Larimer County is the ninth largest county in Colorado at 2640 square miles, and the sixth largest county in population with over 310,000 residents. Located in north central Colorado, Larimer County is a county of contrasts ranging from the high mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park in the west to foothills and plains along the Interstate 25 corridor. The majority of the population resides in Fort Collins and Loveland. There are three school districts in the county. The median household income is $75,800. There is a commitment to preserving agriculture, its heritage, and open space in an urbanizing county. Larimer County offers a variety of attractive residential choices, excellent schools, parks, greenbelts and trail systems, recreation, cultural opportunities, and an inviting quality of life. Fort Collins is home to the Colorado State University campus. The fourteen Extension staff members consist of the director, six Extension agents, agriculture/natural resources, horticulture, and food safety, and several coordinators, community educators and support staff. Position Summary

The Larimer Extension Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) program is a five-year USDA/NIFA Children, Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) grant-funded program. Funding is secure through August 30, 2018. In 2014, CYFAR funded Colorado State University Extension offices in Larimer County and the Denver Five Points area to develop and pilot a two-generation leadership and civic engagement model. The program utilizes the already established FLTI adult curriculum and adds elements of the evidence-based “Dare to Be You” curriculum for the youth component. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, both sites implemented the Two-Generation FLTI with much success. Learn more about FLTI at https://flti.wordpress.com/.

The office for this position is in Larimer County. The individual is a local representative of Colorado State University, is a member of the local Extension Team and works under the supervision of the Larimer County Extension Director. This position will provide leadership in the planning and implementation of the Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI) in Larimer County by attending to logistical details. The position will work cooperatively with other team members including the Larimer County Extension staff, FLTI Civic Design Team, State FLTI Leadership Team, and community members and agencies.

Required Job Qualifications

• Completed Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, family & consumer sciences, health sciences, anthropology, business management, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in organizing and delivering effective educational programs targeting family and community needs.
• Demonstrated experience working with people as individuals, groups, and staff, and the ability to develop and lead partnerships and collaborations.
• Evidence of drive and initiative.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivery of educational programs.
• Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes including inclusive and targeted programming to low-income and diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate through teaching, facilitation, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Completed Master’s degree in education, social work, family & consumer sciences, health sciences, anthropology, business management, or related field.
• Demonstrated work experience in working effectively in a multi-program environment.
• Experience or coursework in audience needs identification, program development, experiential learning and evaluating the results of programs.
• Knowledge of or use of facilitation skills in a public setting, experience working in community capacity building.
• Experience with the media and web-based information delivery methods.
• Skill in the recruitment, training and management of volunteers.
• Demonstrated ability and/or training in resource generation (grants, contracts, fundraising).
• Knowledge of and experience with conflict resolution.
• Ability to speak Spanish.

• Deliver county-wide FLTI civics and leadership educational programming.
• Coordinate and lead the FLTI Facilitator team for the implementation of FLTI.
• Plan and secure FLTI session speakers.
• Plan, secure and manage facilities, meals, child care, and program materials for Larimer County FLTI sessions, retreat and graduation.
• Attend all Larimer County FLTI training sessions, retreat, and graduations.
• Promote FLTI in the community.
• Lead recruitment efforts to acquire adult and youth FLTI applicants.
• Organize interviews for FLTI applicants.
• Distribute and collect post session evaluation forms at each FLTI session. Ensure completion of pre- and post-survey assessment data.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, finances, evaluations.
• Assist FLTI participants with their civic projects by serving as a resource.
• Coordinate logistics of FLTI local graduations with the Civic Leadership Team.
• Acquire local donations for food and childcare expenses.
• Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies including reaching out to underserved and under-represented audiences.
• Participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate or required by the position.
• Other duties as assigned.
