Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

Provide support necessary to assist the Fort Polk Conservation
Branch in implementing curation guidelines of the ICRMP and 36 CFR 79. Conduct archaeological fieldwork and assist the Curation Specialist with the archaeological and heritage collections. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning, sorting, processing and preparing artifacts and related documents for storage. The position will also involve archaeological fieldwork to include survey, testing, excavation site monitoring, etc. It may also involve participation in cultural resources related outreach programs such as Fort Polk Heritage Days activities.

Required Job Qualifications

Minimum qualification for this position is a BA or BS in Anthropology or Archaeology with three years of experience with curation tasks.

Ability and experience implementing techniques for accessioning collections, cataloging artifacts, and labeling and processing collections.

Ability to conduct field work in rugged terrain and weather extremes as needed. The successful candidate should have good fieldwork knowledge, as well as, capability to assist with any excavation, completing ARPA damage assessments, using a GPS, using a map/compass, and monitoring archaeological sites.

Ability to obtain appropriate training and certifications required to achieve all duties herein.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Knowledge of the archaeology of Louisiana or the southeast is strongly preferred.
