Description of Work Unit

The Resource Delivery Services Unit at the Colorado State University Libraries supports CSU’s academic and research mission by facilitating access to library resources for students, faculty and researchers; managing circulation of library materials and technology; providing support for patron inquiries about library resources, services, and spaces; and overseeing interlibrary loan operations. The unit is also home to RapidILL, a unique resource sharing system that provides fast, cost-effective book and online article requesting and delivery services through interlibrary loan.

The CSU Libraries is a technologically sophisticated environment with extensive electronic resources collections and services primarily located in Morgan Library. The Dean of Libraries is also the campus Vice President for Information Technology, and Academic Computing and Network Services is part of the Libraries. CSU is making a strong strategic investment to ensure that our academic libraries meet the needs of the institution, now and into the future. A strong collaboration exists and is burgeoning with the Vice President for Research.

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Resource Delivery Services provides dynamic and visionary leadership, management, planning, policy development, and strategic direction for seamless access to library resources, utilizing an innovative mix of building-based options and remote delivery solutions.
This position supervises and works with the Coordinator for Onsite Services and the Coordinator for Desktop Delivery to carry out strategic directions for a number of units, including the Help Desk, lending services, shelving, e-reserves, local document delivery, resource sharing, and connections with offsite facilities (Lake Street Depository, Veterinary Hospital Branch Library, and satellite campus library service areas). The Assistant Dean for Resource Delivery also
provides leadership, oversight, and supervision for team members responsible for RapidILL, an enterprise resource sharing system designed by staff of Colorado State University Libraries and licensed by more than 300 research libraries for fast, cost-effective access to collections held by participating libraries. Some travel is occasionally required.

This highly visible senior administrative position, together with two additional assistant deans, is a member of the Libraries’ executive leadership group, and reports directly to the Dean of Libraries/Vice President for Information Technology. The Assistant Dean for Resource Delivery Services works closely with the other assistant deans, the Director of Academic and Network Services, and the Dean to advance library services for the campus, promote emphasis on technology-based delivery, and transform facilities to enhance scholarship and learning.

Required Job Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of experience administering a major unit within an academic or research library.
• Supervisory and team-building experience.
• Experience in strategic planning, personnel, resource allocation, and budget/fiscal management.
• Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in resource delivery.
• Record of scholarly accomplishments and relevant professional service supporting minimum appointment at the rank of tenured associate professor.
