Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. Position Summary

Serves as the Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan (INRMP) team lead at Fort Polk, LA to provide support implementing management guidelines of the INRMP. Provides high level support to Fort Polk Conservation Branch by overseeing other CEMML employees in the INRMP program, INRMP project development and management, report document preparation and review, outreach, and coordination with Federal, State, and local entities.

Required Job Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science in wildlife biology or closely related field and 3+ years of experience in natural resources.

Experience implementing field techniques that are needed to meet INRMP requirements.

Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Master of Science degree in wildlife biology or related field
Knowledge of flora and fauna of central Louisiana or analogous habitats.
Ability to perform strenuous field work in rugged terrain and weather extremes.
Experience managing natural resource projects
Experience capturing, identifying, and banding/ marking birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish and invertebrates within all appropriate habitats.
Experience with botany and/or vegetation management
Expertise to map locations using the Geographic Information System ArcMap.
Experience leading or supervising
Willingness to obtain appropriate training, certifications and permits required to achieve responsibilities.
Prior experience working on a military installation.

Oversee CEMML INRMP team of 6 – 9 staff to ensure completion of goals and objectives under the Scope of Work. Leads CEMML INRMP program planning and oversite. Monitoring and management of INRMP activities and projects to include botany, non-game and game species programs. Coordinate with various ENRMD staff and other concerned parties, including, but not limited to, the Endangered Species Program, Cultural Resources Program, Integrated Pest Management Program, National Environmental Policy Act Program, other ENRMD branches and other Fort Polk Directorates. Ensures that proper protocols and methodology are utilized to collect field data and to interpret results.

Organize, oversee, and conduct weekly meetings to plan and implement INRMP projects. Participate in monthly safety briefings to ensure team safety. Semiannual meetings for INRMP project, procedure and product reviews. Prepare and facilitate quarterly INRMP meetings. Track and schedule training and safety requirements necessary to complete INRMP projects. Coordinate and schedule special INRMP events at monthly Resource Allocation Conference meetings.

Gathers data, results, reports, recommendations, etc, to analyze condition of program areas. This analysis is used to create quarterly reports and annual review/updates to the botany, non-game and game species sections of the INRMP as well as the 5 year INRMP review and update. Provide annual review of all report products for INRMP SOPs as well as final review for botany, non-game and game species INRMP SOPs. Review and tracking of efforts for compliance of regulations including, but not limited to, Sikes Act Improvement Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act Section 404, US Department of Defense, US Army and Fort Polk regulations and other applicable executive orders and institutional guidance. Review and prepare NEPA documentation to evaluate potential impacts to sensitive plant and animal species due to construction projects and military training.

The team lead cooperates with the Federal Program Managers to determine what changes will be adopted.
