The Communication Studies Department at Colorado State University expresses and defines our passionate commitment to communication through our academic programs, our scholarship and teaching and our community engagement such as the ACT Human Rights Film Festival and the Center for Public Deliberation. We explore communication across mediated forms, in relationships and organizations, and as rhetorical performance of civic engagement. We believe that studying and practicing communication is necessary for fully engaged global citizenship.

Position Summary

The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University seeks an assistant professor who specializes in race, ethnicity, and dialogue. Successful candidates will be equipped to collaborate with faculty and students in the study and practice of engaged communication within our nationally-recognized Center for Public Deliberation, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to enhancing local democracy through improved public communication and community problem-solving. Candidates may employ either critical or social scientific research methods in their study of race, ethnicity, and dialogue. We seek applicants whose research and scholarly training is grounded in the Communication Studies discipline. Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences on and off campus. This is an entry-level, tenure-track, nine-month appointment which starts August 16, 2018.

Required Job Qualifications

1. Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
2. Demonstrated potential for excellence in communication research related to race, ethnicity, and dialogue.
3. Ph.D. required at time of appointment.
4. Ability to function collegially on a faculty committed to a liberal arts understanding of Communication Studies.

Preferred Job Qualifications

1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences on and off campus
2. Demonstrated potential for collaborating with faculty and students in the Center for Deliberation
3. Ph.D. in hand
4. Ability in one or more of the following departmental areas of emphasis: rhetoric and civic engagement, relational and organizational communication, and media and visual culture
