Description of Work Unit

The department currently comprises 18 faculty and over 100 graduate students in our MS, MAS, and PhD graduate programs, and has a network of faculty affiliates at nearby research agencies (National Center for Atmospheric Research, National Institute of Standards and Technology, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, among others). Our faculty members have a wide range of expertise and are involved in various interdisciplinary graduate training and research activities. Internal and external consulting activities of the department are supported through the Graybill Statistical Laboratory. Fort Collins, located one hour north of Denver in a beautiful location along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, offers abundant recreational and cultural opportunities.

Position Summary

The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level with duties commencing August 2018. The search is open to all areas of statistical inference for data science; for example, statistical machine learning, large-scale computational statistics, and other emerging areas. Applicants should have the ability to contribute to the development and teaching of statistical data science courses at all levels, in collaboration with data science partners in Computer Science and Mathematics. Preference will be given to candidates with strong potential to continue the Statistics department’s tradition in interdisciplinary research and education.

Required Job Qualifications

A Ph.D. in statistics or a related field and a commitment to high–quality research in statistics and excellence in teaching are required.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Research area in statistical inference for data science; for example, statistical machine learning, large-scale computational statistics, and other emerging areas.
Ability to contribute to the development and teaching of statistical data science courses at all levels, in collaboration with data science partners in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Strong potential to continue the Statistics department’s tradition in interdisciplinary research and education.
