Position Summary

Tenured and tenure-track faculty members in the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State University contribute to the educational mission through three defined areas of contribution: teaching, research, and service. As part of the position, faculty will develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program, actively participate in undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned by the department chair, participate in service deemed appropriate by the department chair, including department and university governance, continue to develop her/his own scholarly activities, and adhere to the responsibilities of the faculty as delineated in the faculty/staff manual. We aim to fill this position at the Assistant Professor level, but will consider exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor rank.

Required Job Qualifications

Ph.D. or equivalent degree and be capable of truly outstanding teaching, research, and scholarship.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category Teaching/Advising/Mentoring

The Faculty member will participate in the undergraduate and graduate classroom curriculum as assigned in collaboration with the Department Chair and Associate Chair in charge of class scheduling. In the Department of Chemistry, a full teaching load is the equivalent of two courses (2-3 credits each) per academic year with some variations based on course demand and need within the Department. In addition, the Faculty is expected to contribute to the education of undergraduate and graduate students via research activities. Specific research-related teaching activities include meeting with students in one-on-one and group settings and critiquing written and verbal communication, as well as other teaching and mentoring activities related to student research.

Job Duty Category Research/Scholarly Activity

The Faculty member is expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research group in chemistry, broadly defined. As part of this effort, the Faculty will establish a strong track record of extramural funding from governmental and/or non-governmental sources. In addition, there is an expectation for publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts in the appropriate scientific literature. Finally, the Faculty candidate will develop and maintain a research group in order to carry out these activities.

The Faculty member will commit a portion of their time to service activities within the Department and University as well as to the broader local and/or scientific community with which they are aligned.
