Description of Work Unit

Weld County is located in North Central Colorado. It is a county that transitions from the more rural and agricultural eastern plains to the more urban-metro areas of the Front Range. Greeley, the county seat, has a population of 103,990; total county population is 294,932. Ninety three percent of the population is White; Blacks, Native Americans, Asians and multiracial individuals are each represented in the population at about one and one-half percent. Greeley is home to the University of Northern Colorado and Aims Community College. Weld County consistently ranks as the top producing agricultural county in Colorado and among the top ten agricultural counties in the nation in the value of agricultural products sold. Weld County’s club based 4-H program features 29 community clubs with over 900 members and 250 volunteer leaders. The Weld County Extension Staff consists of a Director; 4-H Agent; 4-H/Livestock Agent; Horticulture/Agriculture Agent; EFNEP Nutrition Educator, County Fair Coordinator, 4-H Events Coordinator, and three support staff. Position Summary

To work as a member of the Weld County Extension team providing leadership, guidance, organization, management and educational opportunities to youth audiences. This individual works as part of the 4-H team in Weld County working to extend the reach of Weld County 4-H to new audiences; and supporting existing 4-H programming.

The individual in this position works as a member of the Weld County Extension team and as a local representative of Colorado State University. This individual works under the guidance and supervision of the Weld County Extension Director.

Required Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in education, youth development, agriculture, or closely related field. Coursework should reflect an understanding of youth development. Degree must be conferred by start date.
• Minimum of one year experience with youth development programs.
• Demonstrated skill working with people as individuals and in groups; ability to forge equitable and successful partnerships with other professionals and organizations.
• Demonstrated experience working with volunteers, including recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, and recognition.
• Evidence of drive and initiative. Must be a self-starter.
• Demonstrated leadership ability.
• Demonstrated organizational skills.
• Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution and facilitation.
• Ability to communicate through teaching, public speaking/presentation and writing as demonstrated through application materials and experience.
• Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.
• Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering programs.
• Must have access to personal transportation and be able to travel when necessary.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Knowledge of Extension and the land grant university system.
• Knowledge and experience with 4-H.
• Experience in audience needs identification, program development, and evaluating results of programs.
• Experience in fund raising, grantsmanship, or cost recovery efforts.
• Demonstrated ability to use social and mass media (Internet, Facebook, radio, newspapers).
• Ability to speak Spanish.

• Develop and conduct effective, educational, and results-oriented programs that support the growth and development of life skills among youth audiences, mainly through Agriculture and Natural Resource projects and programs.
• Participate in professional development, evening and weekend events, and occasional events requiring overnight stays.
• Work as part of the local 4-H team to develop, implement, evaluate, and report impacts of county-wide non-credit educational programming in youth development.
• Promote programming for diverse audiences and assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies including reaching out to underserved and underrepresented audiences.
• Provide leadership for school enrichment, after-school, and outreach programs for youth.

• Provide support for engaging a broad range of stakeholders through various 4-H and youth development advisory councils and committees in the work of identifying priority 4-H and community youth development needs and addressing them through effective and innovative plans of work.
• Seek internal and external partnerships, funding and resources to support programming efforts.
• Develop strong working relationships and effective communications with local Extension Staff, University Staff, local schools, county departments, community leaders, agencies and other youth-serving organizations and institutions to enhance funding and implementation of local 4-H Youth Development programming.
• Manage program and operating funds in compliance with University fiscal policies and reporting requirements.
• Assure compliance with civil rights and affirmative action policies including reaching out to underserved and underrepresented audiences.

• Provide leadership for active, ongoing, adult and youth volunteer development and engagement through volunteer recruitment, selection, orientation, education, training, motivation, evaluation, recognition and support.
• Prepare volunteers to assume increasing leadership, management, and diverse public education/information roles; enhance the middle management level of volunteers to conduct 4-H programming through Weld County.
• Provide oversight and supervision to volunteers.
• With 4-H Agent, coordinate and provide support for AmeriCorps Service Member(s).
