CSU Donor Relations and Stewardship: As an integral part of University Advancement, the CSU Donor Relations and Stewardship team has the privilege of providing innovative, authentic, and meaningful service and appreciation to Colorado State University donors at all levels. Additionally, this unit works collaboratively with all program areas in Advancement (fundraising and non-fundraising) to identify and implement opportunities, efficiencies, and best practices to serve donors and provide value to campus partners.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship is part of a team of six, and plays a critical role in developing and implementing strategies to express gratitude to donors and demonstrate their philanthropic impact at CSU. In particular, this position is responsible for identifying and directing comprehensive strategies, priorities and tactics to create and launch a new, innovative and inspiring philanthropy initiative for women. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing individual and purposeful stewardship strategies and experiences for the university’s top-level donors that fosters long-term engagement and investment in the university.

To be successful, this position must possess a poised and professional demeanor; impeccable attention to detail; solutions-oriented mindset; a passion for creating meaningful and inspiring donor experiences; is energized by strategy development, execution and data analysis; open to exploring innovative approaches; and nimble in navigating multiple management styles and expectations.

This position will have a program budget oversight of $10k-$15k in its respective area and will report to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship.

Required Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Hospitality, Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field

Minimum of three years of experience in donor relations, member-relations, event-planning, or development.

Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Willingness and ability to travel out of state as needed

A valid driver’s license at the time of hire.

Proven experience working with a donor database such as Ellucian (Advance) or similar complex system.

Develops and implements comprehensive strategies, priorities and tactics to create a new, innovative and inspiring women in philanthropy initiative.

Performs data analysis and provides recommendations, solutions, and expertise on direction and programs affiliated with the women in philanthropy initiative. Determines benchmarks and program evaluation tools in order to effectively measure program outcomes. Responsible for directing enhancements as needed.

Directs the various communications needs, marketing materials and website updates for the women in philanthropy initiative.

Identifies local and regional organizations aligned with women in philanthropy initiative and other university partnership opportunities. Works with leaders of organizations to determine mutually beneficial partnership opportunities (event sponsorships, volunteer board service). Executes all details associated with partnerships.

Serve as the point-of-contact for fundraising activities relating to women in philanthropy initiative and other assigned programs.

Plan and execute strategies and experiences for the university’s top level donors on personal engagement plans as part of cultivation and stewardship process, communicating with and engaging other campus units per the donor’s interests.

Maintain positive, transparent, collaborative internal relationships and timely
communications with university leadership, advancement colleagues, and other key stakeholders on campus.

Understands and applies appropriate policies, regulations, procedures as required by variety of entities including Division of University Advancement, University, community, state, etc.

Proactively identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, whose funding interests align with the women in philanthropy initiative.

Writes and prepares strong, clearly written proposals, grant applications, stewardship reports, and other communications for donors/foundations/corporations that match the donor’s interests with the women’s philanthropy initiative

Responsible for executing 3-5 personal visits per month with prospective donors to women’s philanthropy initiative and determine if they have the capacity and inclination to become a donor to the women in philanthropy initiative. Submits contact reports.

Document all quality contacts and moves management strategies through the use of the prospect tracking system (Advance)

Must be able to meet with donors at times convenient for the donor including early mornings and evenings.
