The mission of the Department of Mathematics is A) to maintain an outstanding program of research in pure and applied mathematics, B) to maintain high quality undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics, C) to offer service courses for the other Departments of the University, and D) to serve the University and the state with outreach programs. The Department has over 200 undergraduate majors and 50 graduate students, with currently 32 tenured and tenure-track faculty.

Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in a temporary or special assignment. Applications will be reviewed when a vacancy occurs. Temporary instructors are hired on a part-time bases each semester which is determined by departmental instructor need, student enrollment numbers, and funding. Special assignments typically last up to a 9 month period or more, and can be either part-time or full-time, depending on the needs of the department.

Temporary and Special Instructors will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses.

Required Job Qualifications

Temporary and Special Instructor requirements: hold a Masters of Science degree in Mathematics or closely related areas, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with previous university teaching experience in Mathematics.

Applicant must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Job Qualifications

Experience teaching large sections of a variety of calculus classes and beyond.

Responsibilities:
1. Prepare and present lessons as outlined in the course syllabi.
2. Hold weekly office hours available to all students.
3. Participate in group reviews prior to all exams.
4. Administer and grade course exams up to 4 times per semester.
