Description of Work Unit

Resource Delivery Services is managed by the Assistant Dean for Resource Delivery Services. It is comprised of several units that provide resources and information to library patrons, including Access Services, the Morgan Library Help Desk, Interlibrary Loan, and RapidILL. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Library serves the information needs of CSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, which is one of the most highly rated veterinary programs in the United States. CVMBS includes five of the university’s Programs of Research and Scholarly Excellence.

The VTH Library provides in-depth, highly specialized medical library reference assistance and research support, and ensures access to a wide range of print and electronic resources for CSU students, faculty, staff, and Colorado residents, including practicing veterinarians. The facility also includes a computer lab, circulating laptops and other technology to support library users in an evolving and technologically complex environment.

Position Summary

This non-tenure-track faculty position manages all operations of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Library by providing highly specialized, focused research assistance to users. As the subject librarian for veterinary medicine and related areas, this position provides reference and research support, offers individual and small group library instruction sessions to patrons, and participates in collection development activities related to the library’s print and electronic resource collections. This position is also responsible for overseeing VTH library policies and procedures; facilitating document delivery for requested materials; supervising circulation of library items; and managing an on-site public computer lab, as well as circulating laptops and other technology to faculty and graduate students. This position supervises 1.0 FTE and 4 student employees, including training, evaluating, and mentorship.

Required Job Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent
• Minimum of two years of experience providing customer service in a library setting, such as at a reference desk or other service point
• Experience working with scientific and/or veterinary information resources
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Job Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience in an academic or library setting
• Experience working in a veterinary, medical or scientific library environment
• Experience with collection development activities in an academic library
• Excellent presentation skills
• Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and flexibility
• Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
• Ability to work effectively both in a collaborative team environment and independently

• Provide reference and research support to students, faculty and staff of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
• Provide library instruction to patrons, individually or to groups/classes, and develop supporting materials such as online tutorials
• Collaborate with liaison librarians and the Coordinator of Collections on collection development and maintenance activities, including purchasing, use assessment, and more
• Participate in regular meetings held by liaison librarians at Morgan Library
• Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff and students in related departments
• Provide additional reference support by contributing hours to the library’s chat reference service and by working at the Morgan Library Help Desk
• Maintain knowledge of trends in science librarianship, liaison activities, and scholarly communication
